My name is Janye Anderson and I am an actress of 'maturity'. I have performed throughout
the Dallas, TX, area and toured nationally, which is a dream-come-true for many actors.
Believe me, it was for me!
After moving to Houston, I began looking for acting schools and classes as I am always open to new ways to learn my craft. My philosophy is once you stop learning and growing, you wither up and die a slow, painful death. Well, maybe it's not that tragic, but nevertheless, going forward in life with something you love feeds your soul and lightens your path to a greater, more fulfilled you.
The result of my search was enlightening. There is an abundance of education in the theatre arts for children and those in their twenties and thirties, but none that actually targets the more mature individual like myself. Not that that is necessary, but for someone wanting to begin acting in later years, this can be an intimidating hurdle that prevents otherwise talented adults from proceeding with a desire to try their hand at performing.
In a recent production, several of my fellow actors (like myself, in their mature stage of life) asked if I would work with them on character development. I felt honored and enjoyed working with them.
Afterwards, they all suggessted that I should give classes because I had helped them so much. Some told me how they had felt left out of classes they had taken in the past as they were the only 'mature' individual there.
I felt very appreciative of their kind words and it started me thinking about the possibility. Teaching others is very gratifying to me so I considered my capabilities:
(1) My experience qualifies me to teach others
(2) I love helping people
(3) I love performing and the way it makes me feel, so others would probably like the opportunity to do it, too.
(4) There isn't anything in Houston specifically for the mature individual who wants to learn the art of acting.
(5) So, why not do it?!
ACT OUT! was born from the honored spoken words of those wonderful fellow actors and the true need for such a service in Houston. I figure that if there is a need for something and it's not available, then why not create it! As they say, "Build it and they will come."
